Kaz is well aware, without Nina to tell him, that his breath catches every time he sees her, even on a normal day. Even when she's just woken up. This, though...this is different. Inej steps out of the bedroom and Kaz forgets how to breath for a moment. It's like his heart forgets how to beat. Like every unconscious part of him grinds to a halt. He's built a life lived on chance and good fortune and he has never, ever felt this lucky.

It's almost enough to get him believing in God.
